Star Fox 64 3D is an upcoming remake of the original Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 3DS. The game was developed by Nintendo and Q-Games and published by Nintendo. The game has already saw a release in Japan on July 14, 2011 while regions outside of Japan will get it in September 2011.

The North America release date was originally September 11, 2011, but was changed to September 9, 2011 which is also the European release date. Some speculate that this is because of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City took place on September 11.

Gameplay[]

The gameplay for the remake is very similar to the original version, albeit with some modifications made to the game. The game features a "64 Mode" and a "3DS Mode". In the 3DS Mode, players can control the game by using the 3DS' internal gyroscope sensor to control the Arwing in space. Controls and character dialogue will be displayed on the touch screen. A multiplayer "Battle Mode" is included, which allows players to play up to 4-player multiplayer, this requires only one cartridge through Download Play mode, however, there is no online multiplayer. The players will be able to take photos of themselves and they will appear in-game, just like the functionality used in Ridge Racer 3D.

Development[]

At the 2010 E3 conference, Nintendo announced a remake of Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 3DS, entitled "Star Fox 64 3D". There was a demo tested the same day at Nintendo E3 2010. The demonstration had controls and character dialogue displayed on the touch screen. Nintendo added a new kind of control that will make use of Nintendo 3DS's gyroscope to control the Arwing in space.

At E3 2011, Nintendo confirmed that the game would support multiplayer for up to four players via 3DS Download Play. At the moment, Nintendo has yet to announce an online multiplayer mode; however, an online mode seems unlikely at this point.

On June 7, 2011, at the annual E3 event during the Nintendo Q&A session, Miyamoto jokingly stated that he warned the developers that if Star Fox 64 3D was not the best game in the series, or did not make a lot of money, the franchise would have to be discontinued.
