Shine Sprites are items in the Mario series that almost look like Power Stars. They appear in Super Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door, and Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. In Super Mario Sunshine, they have the same purpose as stars. Mario must collect them to bring more sunlight back to Isle Delfino and to save the Shine Gate.
In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door, Mario can get Shine Sprites from a type of block, and he can use them to upgrade his partners. In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, in one of the multiplayer modes, the racers must find a Shine Sprite. The racer that gets it must try to keep it as long as they can. If the racer gets damaged, they will lose the Shine Sprite
