Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and its remake Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, is the second installment in the Kingdom Hearts series and was the first handheld game in the series. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories takes place in-between Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II. The game introduced a new battle system that is card-based.

Gameplay[]

The game feature a card-based battle system and also uses cards to progress through Castle Oblivion. It uses World Cards to turn a floor of Castle Oblivion into the selected world. There are many different cards for doors in Castle Oblivion and certain cards are needed in order to enter the next room of the world. The combat uses cards to select attacks, items, magic, and to let a partner, like Donald or Goofy, attack. Once a player uses his/her full deck of cards, they need to reload it which leaves them open to attack. The game has three modes, story mode, Reverse/Rebirth mode, and a link mode. The Reverse/Rebirth mode is Riku's story as he explores Castle Oblivion. The link mode is a multi-player battle mode that requires a Game Link Cable.
