Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is the next major installment in the popular Kingdom Hearts series. The game was originally revealed as Kingdom Hearts 3D at E3 2010 until its full name was announced just recently. The game is said to be an entire new chapter in the series rather than being a side-story. It will make use of the Nintendo 3DS's ability to produce 3D visuals without the need for eyeware.

Setting[]

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance was announced to have entirely new Disney-based worlds. The worlds, like Traverse Town, will return though. The game is set after the events of Kingdom Hearts coded. So far only one world has been revealed. This world is going to be based off of the Disney animated movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Characters[]

Sora and Riku will return and both will be playable. They will be in their original attires from Kingdom Hearts and they are depicted this way for a specific reason, according to Tetsuya Nomura. During the secret ending clip from coded, Mickey Mouse and his former master Yen Sid are having a chat about the return of Master Xehanort. Yen Sid asks Mickey to bring Riku and Sora there so that they may have a Mark of Mastery exam. This is so that they can become Keyblade Masters in response to Xehanort's return. Also, during the trailer for the game, Xehanort's splintered selves, Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and Xemnas, are seen about to engage Sora and Riku in combat. Neku, character from The World Ends With You, will be a character in Traverse Town. The enemies of the game are revealed to be called Dream Eaters.[1]

Gameplay[]

The Deck Command system from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep seems to be making a return in this game as seen in the trailer. Also a new element is introduced, some kind of meter labeled "Drop", which is yet to be explained. Riku and Sora seem to can use the environment around them to help them defeat enemies. This gives them a whole new fighting style.

A new pet companion is available which you can interact with through augmented reality and the stylus.[1]
