Fake Crash is a gag character that appears in many Crash Bandicoot games. As his name implies, he looks like an imitation of Crash Bandicoot, though he has large eyebrows and huge teeth. Fake Crash originated from a cheap Crash toy in Japan that had big eyebrows and huge teeth. The members of Naughty Dog started calling it "Trash Bandicoot" but was later named "Fake Crash".

According to Mark Cerny, Fake Crash was originally a gag character from a Japanese TV advertisement for Crash 2.[1] He is extremely popular in Japan and even playable in the Japanese version of Crash Bash.

Appearances[]

Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped[]

Fake Crash can be found in the levels "Toad Village", "Makin' Waves", and "Hog Ride" (PAL version only). He can be found just a little bit off the main path or on an island.

Crash Bash[]

Due to his immense popularity in Japan, the Japanese Crash Bash features Fake Crash as a secret playable character. He is unlocked by holding L1 and R1 and pressing left at the character select screen.

Crash Nitro Kart[]

Fake Crash appears in Crash Nitro Kart as a playable character and is only unlocked if the player performs 50 consecutive speed boosts on any track in Adventure Mode as a member of Team Cortex.

The Game Boy Advance version of Crash Nitro Kart features him hidden outside the track "Out of Time", where he explains he got lost while driving around. This encounter unlocks him in this version.

Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage[]

In Crash Purple (Crash Fusion), he appears in the Dragon Castles chained to a wall in a hidden chamber.

Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced[]

In N-Tranced, Fake Crash is mistaken for the real Crash Bandicoot. He is brainwashed by N-Trance along with Coco Bandicoot and Crunch Bandicoot. He later appears as a boss and mimics Crash's movements. Crash uses this to trick Fake Crash into running into spears that rise from the platforms.

Crash: Boom, Bang![]

In Crash: Boom, Bang!, he appears late in the story, but doesn't affect the overall plot at all.
