Checkpoints are locations where the player can save their game, and if they lose a life, they can respawn at the checkpoint. Sometimes, if the player gets a "Game Over", they might also respawn at the checkpoint. Checkpoints can last for the rest of the level, or until a new checkpoint is found and activated. Sometimes, checkpoints will give the player bonuses for activating them.
